Nelson Gonzalez Barreto

Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Nelson Gonzalez is a bassist, composer, arranger, and band leader residing in Oklahoma City. As a sought-after bassist, Nelson has shared stage with various artists both in the OKC jazz and pop scene, as well as performed in several important venues such as Tower Theatre, 51st Speakeasy, UCO Jazz Lab, etc. During his time at UCO, he was an active participant of the renowned UCO Jazz Ensemble, where he got to perform with artists such as Jason Marsalis, Ingrid Jensen, Bob Mintzer, Paul Brewer, Sharel Cassity and John Daversa. As a freelance musician, Nelson works regularly with his own jazz quartet, where he performs original music that combines jazz with his Venezuelan roots, on top of that, Nelson has professional experience performing and arranging for a variety of groups that range from funk music, musical theatre, big band, rock groups, hip-hop, etc. Nelson’s first jazz album “It Blurs as We Speak” is available on all streaming platforms.
